Gospodarstwo narodowe. Elementarne zasady gospodarstwa narodowego.
First edition. The work is amongst the first to differentiate between the principles of individual wealth and the wealth of nations. Divided into two parts, the first discusses production, exchange, revenue and consumption. The second is a general examination of the wealth of nations in which the author refers to the works of Say, Smith and Storch. The work was closely studied by Karl Marx, who quotes it in Kapital.
Later published in French in order to attract an international audience, on the strength of Theories des richesses sociales, Skarbek was proclaimed the second most influential economist in France after Jean Baptiste Say.
Skarbek (1792-1869), was professor of law and political economics at the university of Warsaw from 1818 until its closure by the occupying Russians in 1831. He also worked for the governmental department of charities and prisons, where he supervised the implementation of his own ideas of humanitarian penitentiaries. He was the godfather of Fryderyck Chopin.
